Alternate Forms of Energy

Run A Car On Water

In this article, the advantages and disadvantages of alternate forms of energy will be introduced. Today, our own sun is known to be the most obvious and greatest energy source. Solar energy comes to us freely and efficiently. In several places around the world, it is possible that solar power will replace traditional sources of electricity, particularly where there is an abundance of sunshine. Places like Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and other places in the Middle East and Asia. It must be collected, stored and harnessed for useful purposes before it will become viable for everyday use.

Unfortunately, not all places are considered ideal for solar power. In areas of high latitude, there isn't enough sunlight during the day to produce an sufficient amount of energy, and the same applies to places where it is known to rain in abundance. Solar collectors then become essential to using solar energy in practical applications. There are some promising developments in solar panels however that practically anyone can install and implement in a home at little cost. Try this: Installing solar panels for

Wind Energy

Whether you realize it or not, wind is known to be extremely efficient at producing electricity. Obviously, you are going to need a whole bunch of wind, which you would normally find along the coast lines and within high altitudes. It is possible for wind to replace up to twenty percent of our electric consumption in total within the foreseeable future.

Wind is also considered to be a clean energy source which means that it doesn't consist of any of the harmful by-products such as carbon dioxide. However, all of the windmills that have large blades are considered to pose a threat to birds and you are going to need a lot of extra room in order to build a ideal wind power generator. Here is a great source of information and know-how about installing your own wind generators: Installing wind power generators for

Hydroelectric Energy

Hydroelectric energy as an alternate form of energy is mainly from the hydroelectric dams. The production of electricity from the movement of water in rivers is clean and it doesn't produce any waste material. However, the perfect place to create this form of energy is often hard to find and can be very expensive.

Tidal Energy

Tidal energy and hydroelectric energy both work in a similar way but on different scales;tidal energy is produced on a much smaller scale. It uses the ocean's natural tides but can't be constructed everywhere. Currently, there have only been nine places identified as ideal to tidal power plants and all of them impact the fisheries and migratory birds negatively.

Biomass: Biomass is just one more of the many to produce an alcohol that is comparable to coal and that can be used to replace our current need for gasoline. The biomass can consist of fermented agricultural crops, animal waste, natural products and grains, however, the use of biomass fuel is still known to produce harmful greenhouse gases.

Other alternate forms of energy include geothermal, fusion and nuclear power, but all of them have some type of negative effect on the environment. Nuclear power is safe and clean and will play a big part of our future energy needs. It must however, overcome its negative safety record. Fusion and geothermal energy are limited to small localities due to the large infrastructure needed to build the systems into viable sources of reliable energy.
